Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish claimed to have decided to bring back captain Steven Gerrard in the arrangement of the first team against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Carling Cup game this weekend. The original figure of the English players are sought after Liverpool's crushing 0-4 defeat of Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League action yesterday.
31-year-old midfielder did not play with the team since early March because he suffered a groin injury. However, according to Dalglish, Gerrard has started training again to return to the core team.
Before the game against the Spurs, many parties have suggested Dalglish to bring it down to strengthen the squad for the Reds at White Hart Lane. However, Dalglish did not want to take risks in a later match ended 4-0 to Spurs. The Scot did not seem to want to rush to put Gerrard back into the team before it is completely recovered and ready to play.
In its official statement to Sky Sports News after the defeat of Spurs, Dalglish said Gerrard was in good condition. However, even then Dalglish has the option to drop him in a match next Wednesday, he was still reluctant to express certainty Gerrard will be lowered.
"I've said it all, he has been doing its part with the fantastic. We will continue to monitor (condition) and choose the right moment for him and for us before playing together again," he said.
However, Dalglish himself promised to consider the ability of a maximum squad for the game, including the presence of Gerrard.
"Naturally when everyone is looking for Gerrard, especially when you've lost 4-0. But we'll think about it, select it to play when both parties had agreed he would play," he said.
